Toy Surgeon Dr. Shackelford is in the House!

Toy surgeon Dr. Shackelford.

Last night I discovered that all the puppies squeaker toys needed surgery last night. Every last one of them. Samantha and Jasper love to play tug of war with all of the squeaker toys. So I waded into the room that will eventually become our shared office and sewing room. The box or bag that might contain a needle, thread and scissors.

All of the toys that needed surgery.

Of Dr. Shackelford's tools for toy surgery. Replacement squeakers available at Petsmart for a fraction of the cost of just one toy.

Samantha's favorite toy the stuffed llama. Once upon a time it was bigger than she was. This morning Samantha and Jasper happily played tug of war with the stuffed llama.

One of two pink teddy bears. A new squeaker was needed for one of the bears and this one just needed his neck sewn up.

All of Toy Surgeon Dr. Shackelford's patients put back together again and ready to be played with in the morning.

2nd Annual Fire Sale at Hilltop Yarn

I've copied this from my email ...I'm on the hilltop yarn shop email distribution list. They are having a really big sale starting tomorrow.

What doesn't kill you will make you strongerYES! We beat the odds and have survived (dare we say thrived?) another year since that nasty little electrical fire closed our shop in January 2008.
Goodwill abounded as we dusted off our shelves and reopened with an exciting array of new products, interesting classes, and a renewed sense of purpose. Today, that purpose extends to you, our loyal customers, for helping us stay here on Queen Anne. As our way of saying THANKS, we’d like to offer you the best little four day sale you’ve ever seen, without the hour-long line around the block like last time!
Beginning Thursday (tomorrow!), January 29 through Sunday, February 1, all yarn and all bags are 20%. In addition, everything on our sale shelf is 35% off. We received many new yarns in the past few weeks and are excited to show you what’s new and on the shop needles.
As always, sale prices are good for stock on hand only and do not apply to special orders. All sale transactions are final and cannot be returned. Purl One vouchers may not be used to make sale purchases. Discounts may not be combined.
Warmly,
Jennifer Hill, Founder and Owner

US Airways Flight 1549

Its truely a miracle that pilots were able to land this aircraft on the Hudson River today along side Manhattan Island. The aircraft is completely in tact and everyone on-board (150 passengers and five crew members) including the crew was rescued within minutes of the plane going down.

Knitting Projects

So last night I finished a scarf that I had promised a coworker of mine that I would knit for her if she purchased some yarn for the scarf.

Today I have been learning all about the invisible cast off method for the "Beer Gloves" I have been knitting for Paul. These gloves are beginning to seem like a lot of work when it takes longer to accomplish the invisible cast that it does to knit each finger for the gloves. Anyway I found a tutorial online that has been guiding me every stitch of the way...since my pattern book "Son of Stitch n Bitch" doesn't have a stitch glossary in the back.

The past week I have been adding to my growing knitting library...first Paul let me spend both of the gift cards that we received from his mom for Christmas. My first pick was Luxury Yarn One-Skein Wonders, and Knitting Goes Large. Sometimes working in front a computer for over 12 hours a day can be detrimental at payday because I found more books online that needed to be added to my personal library at home...Two more gardening books and two more knitting books are on their way through the shipping system to my doorstep. Amazon makes it really hard to resist buying books when they have free shipping.

The Joys of Moving.....

So Paul and I have been officially living in our new house for about two weeks now. We finally have the internet service hooked up and the TV. We are slowly unpacking...I have actually seen the floor in our living room and office for the first time since we moved in.

The lesson that I have learned from this move...its very important that you new landlord have your place cleaned before you move in! Our house was not cleaned and I am still struggling to clean and then unpack. Yes, our landlord did give us money off our second month's rent but I'm sure that it was enough....

I was so happy that Wednesday was our first meeting of stitch n bitch for the new year. I needed my friends. You don't realize how long two weeks can seem until you go through the stress of moving and snowstorms all at once with Christmas mixed in.
